14th Place at CTMP for Powell

Bowmanville, Ontario- August 25th , 2018– Coming off of an awesome 2nd place finish at Riverside Speedway,  Ed Hakonson Racing/Team 3 Red and driver Cole Powell ran their final road course race this weekend posting a 14th place finish.

Practice on Saturday afternoon was tough as Powell struggled to get the rhythm of the track and balance in his race machine. The Team ended practice in the 20th spot.

The skies opened up with a late afternoon rain and washed out qualifying for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. The Team would start 20th in the field for Sunday mornings’ Total Quartz Energy 200.

The focus for Powell and the Team for the race Sunday morning was to learn, make adjustments throughout the race and get their #3 Kubota/Copp’s Build All Chevrolet back towards the front.

With the drop of the green flag, Powell picked up a spot right away and continued to log laps and providing feedback to the Team for adjustments. Crew Chief Craig Masters brought Powell in for fuel on lap 12 under green and tires under caution on lap 18. It was all front for Powell from there as he worked his way through the 10 turns of the prestigious road course.

Powell made some great on track passes and brought his #3 Chevrolet home 14th in the finishing order.

“Like anything else, road course racing takes time and practice to be really good at,” said Team Owner Ed Hakonson. “Cole made some progress today and we just need to keep fine tuning with seat time and feedback on the car. It’s onto 3 ovals to finish the season and we are confident that the Team we have here will have some success to close out the season.”

Powell is now tied for 3rd in the Championship points battle as the Team get a week off before heading to the bullring at St Eustache, Quebec, just north of Montreal on September 8th.

2nd Place Finish at Riverside for E.H.R.

Antigonish, NS – August 20TH , 2018- After a complete rain out of the day’s activities on Saturday morning, Ed Hakonson Racing/Team 3 Red and driver Cole Powell ran the high banks of the Maritimes’ premier track; Riverside Speedway, yesterday coming away with a 2nd place finish.

The Team was able to practice on Sunday morning, posting a 10th place on the speed charts. Without being able to run qualifying on Saturday, NASCAR instituted their rain policy and started the race based on current points standings.

Team driver Cole Powell was sitting 4th in points heading into the Bumper to Bumper event and started from outside row number 2 on Sunday afternoon.

The 300 lap event at Riverside is known for having long green-flag runs and Powell kept his #3 Copp’s Buildall/Kubota Chevrolet in the top 5. He came to the attention of the E.H.R pit crew during one of the optional breaks on lap 225 for tires and fuel on his race machine.

Powell restarted 4th in the running order and on lap 240 earned 3rd and finally pulled into the runner up spot on lap 242. Powell held off hard charges for position from 3rd place, while managing to close the gap that the leader had created as the leaders worked through lapped traffic. Powell simply ran out of laps to earn the top spot on the podium. He finished a well deserved 2nd.

“This was another great day for this team,” said Jason Hathaway as the Team was in post-race technical inspection. “We have had great success here in the past and it was great to see Cole have the same.”

The Team will head to the last road course of the 2018 season this coming weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as part of the NASCAR TRUCK Series weekend in the Total Energy 200 on Sunday morning.

11th Place Finish for Powell at GP3R

Trois Rivieres, Quebec- August 12, 2018- Ed Hakonson Racing/Team 3 Red and driver Cole Powell competed in their 3rd road course race of the 2018 NPS season this weekend at Le Tours 50 CAN-AM, bringing home a 11th place finish.

This was the first time that Powell had visited the famous 11-turn street course. Powell practiced well on Saturday and qualified 17th in a tight field.

The main event took place Sunday afternoon. Under the direction of Jason Hathaway and Team Spotter Jeff Gotelaer, Powell took the green flag for the 50-lap event. By the half way point of the race, Powell had found some rhythm and was positioned 12th in the running order.

After the mandatory competition yellow for pit stops the #3 Copp’s Buildall/Kubota Chevrolet battled for position and endured numerous caution periods. Starting from the 9th spot on the grid for what would be the last restart of the day, Powell challenged for 8th, but was relegated back to 11th where he took the checkered flag.

“This was a good end to our third road course this season. The car handled well and I learned a ton this weekend. The crowd here at Trois Rivieres is pretty awesome and the track puts on a great event.” Said Powell.

The Team will travel to Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia next Saturday for the Bumper to Bumper 300.
