Hard Fought Fight At Barrie For Hathaway

September 9, 2012- Barrie, Ontario– After the postponement of the Wahia Springs 300 on Saturday afternoon, Jason Hathaway in his #3 Snap-on Tools/ Rockstar Energy Drink/Vortex Brake Pads Dodge got back to oval track racing at Barrie Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

Barrie is known for tight racing and is always full of action and this race did not disappoint. Hathaway had a solid qualifying effort; posting a 8th place start on a track wet from extensive rain and overcast skies.

The 300 lap race got started at 1:30 pm and Hathaway set his sights on the top 5 right away. By lap 44, he had made his way up to 6th in the running order.  Hathaway stayed out of trouble logging laps and getting into a rhythm. Crew Chief Craig Masters brought Hathaway’s race machine down pit road for left side tires on lap 137 and Hathaway continued to comfortably run laps in the 5th spot.

Some on track beating and banging forced Hathaway back in the running order. In true Hathaway style though the #3 Snap-on Tools/Rockstar Energy Drink/Vortex Brake Pads Dodge never gave up and worked the tight .333 –mile oval. At the half-way point Hathaway had battled back up to 7th and was in the hunt.

On lap 202 Hathaway got caught up in a car spinning in front of him and did some front end damage to his race car. On the pit stop the crew checked the car over, repaired the damage and sent Hathaway back out to challenge again. With 50 laps to go and a little beat up race car Hathaway was 6th and had his sights on a top 5 finish.  Hampered by numerous cautions and a green white checkered finale cut Hathaway chances short and he finished a hard fought 8th place lacking some front end fiberglass!

“This was a crazy weekend. We had a good top 5 car today, but some crazy driving out there by some drivers beat on our car. We got held up in a few spots with the traffic so tight.”  Said Hathaway. “The crew did a great job getting me in and out of the pits and in contention all afternoon. We had the support of Napoleon Fireplaces & Grills and Choko Motorsports trackside today and it was great to have them all here to watch us in action! We will be ready to go for Riverside next weekend!”
