STOUFFVILLE, ON- September 4, 2014- Jason Hathaway will return to Barrie Speedway for the Wahta Springs 300 this Saturday, September 6th. The event will serve as Round 10 of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season, with Hathaway entering as the defending race winner.

“There’s always an extra little bit of momentum behind you when you’re the defending winner”, explains the driver of the No. 3 Rockstar Energy Drink/Fast Eddie Racewear Chevrolet. “Barrie’s a place that we’re very comfortable at. It’s one of my favourite races on the schedule. I consider short track racing to be my greatest strength, and that’s exactly what Saturday night is going to be all about.”

 

Barrie’s tight 1/3-mile tri-oval has been known to test a driver’s patience, though Hathaway explains the challenging confines are exactly what make Barrie so much fun.

 
“You have to be up on the wheel every single lap at Barrie”, says Hathaway. “If you take a lap off, you’ll find yourself back in traffic pretty quickly. Of all the speedways we visit in a season, track position means more at Barrie than anywhere else. You want to make sure you’re at the front, because when you’re mired in traffic – that’s when the headaches happen”

 
Hathaway was able to implement that strategy in 2013, avoiding a number of mid-race incidents and making a late-race push for the victory. The short track ace hopes for a repeat this weekend.
“A good time trial effort is going to be our best friend this Saturday”, says Hathaway. “You can use up a lot of your equipment if you have to come through the field. If you qualify well, you’re able to pace yourself and keep your car underneath you, so that you’re able to put something together in the last 50-laps”

BOWMANVILLE, ON- August 31, 2014- For the second time this season, Jason Hathaway found himself removed from contention late in the going in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 competition at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

 
The short track ace ran amongst the top-10 for the entirety of the Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 – at times racing within the top-5 – before transmission issues parked the No. 3 Princess Auto/Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet just 12-laps from the checkered flag.

 
“I’m not sure what we have to do to get a good finish here”, offered a disappointed Hathaway post-race. “We lost an engine here in the Spring. Today, we came back with a brand new power plant and the transmission gives up on us. The team does a fantastic job preparing these cars”, continued Hathaway, “we go through them front to back before and after every single event. Unfortunately, there’s just nothing you can do to prepare for these types of parts failures.”

 
Hathaway entered the event eager for redemption, after a DNF in May left his Ed Hakonson Racing team hungry for their first career road course victory.

 
“We wanted this one pretty badly”, admitted Hathaway. “Our pit road strategy was great. We took tires at the right time, and were preparing for that late-race run. We had a strong enough car to be there when it counted. It would have been a dogfight right to the end, that’s for sure.”

 
The team will take the week to regroup, before returning to action this Saturday, September 6th at Barrie Speedway for the Wahta Springs 300.

 
“We’re very much looking forward to the final two races on the schedule”, said Hathaway. “Barrie and Kawartha are two tracks that we are strong at.”

 
“Barrie always seems to provide its fair share of excitement. I can’t wait to get back under the lights there and provide my fans and sponsors with some short track excitement”

STOUFFVILLE, ON- AUGUST 27, 2014- More than 3 months removed from a frustrating engine failure in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season debut, championship contender Jason Hathaway is ready for a second chance at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park glory.

 

“It felt like a punch to the stomach”, reminisces Hathaway when asked of his lap-36 blown engine in the 2014 lid lifter on May 18^th.

 

“That was the best car we’d ever had at CTMP, it really felt like we had enough to be a factor”, continues the noted short-track specialist. “No amount of strategy can prepare you for a blown engine, though. We picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off and ended up carving out a great season so far.”

 

“But I’m excited to have another chance at CTMP”, adds the driver of the No. 3 Princess Auto/Rockstar Energy Chevrolet.

 

Hathaway has 4 career NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 victories, but has yet to earn one in road course competition.

 

“I feel as though this entire team has matured and evolved the last few seasons”, says Hathaway. “I see myself as a well-rounded racecar driver and we are a contender to win when we run road courses this season.  A win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will do that.”

 

Hathaway will enter the Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 on August 31^st with his sights set on climbing into the top-3 in championship points.

“We’re at a pretty pivotal spot in the season, a lot can change this weekend”, explains Hathaway. “My guys are hungry, I’m hungry. Motivation is not a problem for us! “

 

“A strong run on Sunday would mean the world to us”, continues Hathaway. “Barrie and Kawartha are next, and we’re traditionally very strong at both of those tracks. A top-5 finish this weekend would provide the perfect spark for a late-season push.”

ANTIGONISH, NS- AUGUST 19, 2014- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 veteran Jason Hathaway appeared poised for his second victory of the 2014 season at the Wilson Equipment 300 at Riverside International Raceway. Hathaway was padding a healthy lead on lap-240, when contact with a lapped car ended his run towards victory lane.

 
“Today was a tough pill to swallow”, explained a visibly dejected Hathaway post-race. “This car was as good as it’s been all season long. I don’t think there was a car on the track that had anything for us in the late stages. We were just cruising. We hadn’t even started to push the car hard yet. There was a lot left in this No. 3 Rockstar Energy Drink/HGC Chevrolet.”

 
The Ed Hakonson Racing representative entered the event as the defending race winner, topping the speed charts in final practice before qualifying 4th overall.

 
“Riverside has always been one of our favourite tracks, we always seem to have a great piece here”, said Hathaway. “My guys worked at this car all afternoon, and it just got better and better. I was proud of what our team accomplished tonight, regardless of the finish.”

 
Hathaway seized the top spot on lap-172 and lapped up to 4th place before being caught up in an incident with lapped traffic on lap-240.

 
“A pair of lapped cars got together in front of me as I was working around them”, said Hathaway. “It was a right place, wrong time type of moment. I feel bad for everybody involved. I don’t think anyone wanted an incident like this to play a factor in the finish of the race.”

 
The team would bring their badly damaged ride to the pit area, and worked to repair it, eventually returning to the track to salvage a 12th place finish.

 
“I really can’t say enough about this team”, offered Hathaway. “There’s no quit in these guys. Our car was absolutely mangled and they found a way to get us back on track and salvage a top-15 finish. It certainly wasn’t what we were looking for when we unloaded, but this Ed Hakonson Racing team showed a lot of heart in a bad situation.”

 
Hathaway and team will next return to action with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 on August 31st, when Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 on August 31st.

TROIS RIVIERES, QC-August 11, 2014- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 veteran Jason Hathaway earned his 5th top-10 finish of the season on August 10th. Working his way from deep in the field after an early-race pit stop to finish 8th in the ‘JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours’ at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres.
After qualifying 12th, Hathaway employed a conservative strategy through the race’s early stages, before pitting on lap-5 to make the necessary fuel stop.
“This race was extended for 2014, and it really added an extra layer of strategy to our afternoon”, explained Hathaway. “We didn’t want to worry about fuel late in the going, so our Crew Chief Craig Masters made the call to pit early and get our fuel stop out of the way.”
The No. 3 Princess Auto/Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet exited the pit area in 25th under green flag conditions, and worked his way quickly back through the field.
“Coming from the back is never easy – especially on a course as tight as this, racing against some of the best road racers in the country”, said Hathaway, “but my guys gave me an awesome piece this afternoon, and we were making up ground after our stop.”
A series of cautions hampered the race’s flow, and put a halt to Hathaway’s late-race push.
“After the halfway point, it didn’t feel as though the race was able to really get into a rhythm. We seemed to spend quite a few laps under caution, and once we went green the pack was so tightly grouped it was difficult to stretch our legs and get racey”
The Ed Hakonson Racing representative ended up 8th in the final rundown, moving up to 4th in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series points in the process.
Jason and team will have a quick turnaround, returning to action with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 at Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish, NS on August 16th.

PRINCESS AUTO/ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK RACER EXCITED FOR CHALLENGE OF GP3R

 

Stouffville, Ontario- August 7, 2014-   Veteran Jason Hathaway will return to NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 competition this Sunday, August 10th at the ‘JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours’ at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres.

 

Hathaway had struggled on the tricky street course in years past, but a 4th place finish at the event in 2013 has the short track specialist approaching the GP3R with renewed vigor.

 

“Trois-Rivieres is one of the more fun road courses on the schedule”, said Hathaway. “Street courses are always such a blast because there’s so little room for error. If you don’t hit your marks every lap, you can find yourself in trouble in a hurry. It’s that demanding.”

 

“Up until last season, we hadn’t had a lot of luck at Trois-Rivieres”, continued the veteran, “but we turned it around last year, and we’re excited to build on that and see if we can’t improve even more”

 

The driver of the No. 3 Princess Auto/Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet will enter Round 7 of the Series 5th in NCATS points, just 6 markers back of the top-3.

 

“This is a big weekend for anyone in the championship hunt”, explained Hathaway. “The top-5 are so close right now, you can’t afford to have a bad race. We can make up a lot of ground in the championship hunt if we have a strong race at Trois-Rivieres, which is exactly what we intend on doing.”

ST-EUSTACHE, QC July 27, 2014–After a pair of strong showings in Western Canada, Jason Hathaway struggled in his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 return to Autodrome St-Eustache. A strong recovery from a tough qualifying effort was halted after a cut tire late in the race relegated the veteran to an 11th place finish.

 
“I think today was as hard as we’ve had to work with this car all season”, offered a disappointed Hathaway post-race. “We didn’t have the qualifying results we were hoping for, but my guys rolled up their sleeves and got busy, and we ended up battling back through the first half of the race.”

 
The veteran ran within the top-10 for the bulk of the National 250, working his way as high as 2nd, before suffering a flat right rear tire shortly before the halfway mark.
“We’ve always had great cars at St-Eustache, and no luck to seal the deal”, explained the driver of the No. 3 Princess Auto/Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet. “Unfortunately, that’s exactly the way our night went. I can’t explain how proud I am of this team, they worked hard to bring this car up to speed today. We will regroup and focus on Trois Rivieres.”

 
Hathaway would lose a pair of laps on a green flag pit stop to change the tire, eventually earning a lap back before running out of time at the checkered flag.

STOUFFVILLE, ON- July 24, 2014- Following a successful western road trip that brought home a pair of podium finishes, Ed Hakonson Racing’s Jason Hathaway is ready for a return to Quebec, as he prepares for the ‘National 250’ at Autodrome St-Eustache.

“St-Eustache is one of my favourite stops every season, I absolutely love the atmosphere there”, said Hathaway. “Our Quebec fan base is absolutely incredible, and each year they seem to bring it up a notch at St-Eustache.”

 

A veteran of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, Hathaway will enter July 26th’s event in search of his first career victory at the demanding quarter mile.

 

“We’ve always had really good cars at St-Eustache, and just haven’t had the luck to bring it all together”, explained Hathaway. We have momentum on our side now, after a great western swing, and I’m confident we can keep our No. 3 Pro.Point by Princess Auto/Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet up front all day.”

 

Hathaway will enter the National 250 4th in championship points – just 22 markers back of the lead – and is well aware how important a strong performance will be to his championship aspirations.

 

“The points are so tight this season, you can’t have a bad outing”, stressed Hathaway, “When you race against the best drivers in the country, you have to be sure to bring your A-Game every week.”
